Image of the Week: MD-80s on the Roswell Boneyard

American Airways retired its fleet of MD-80s on Wednesday and I used to be out in Roswell to cowl every little thing (prepare for an in-depth retelling of the story this week).  It was a particular, if not bittersweet, day and it’s one I’ll bear in mind for a very long time.

Through the festivities, considered one of my favourite aviation photographers on Instagram, @diecastryan, and I someway ended up with entry to the boneyard at Roswell Worldwide Air Middle.  As we rode via on a golf cart we noticed all method of plane in numerous levels of disassembly.  Much more to return however needed to at the least offer you one thing to get you enthusiastic about the remainder of the content material to return.

Whereas not the entire MD-80s retired on Wednesday will meet this destiny (as many will likely be transformed into freighters or bought to different non-mainline carriers all over the world), seeing what a few of these MD-80s would face actually drove every little thing residence for me, that the silver birds had been truly gone.  Sobering, however worthy of Image of the Week!
